Learning Outcomes
- Understand what data is shared with third-party AI providers during ingestion and Q&A.
- Apply safer practices when uploading knowledge sources.
Privacy and Security
Data privacy and third-party processing
When using Knowledge Builder:
- Uploaded knowledge source content may be sent to third-party AI providers (for example OpenAI, Gemini, or Anthropic) to generate embeddings and answer questions.
- If your sources contain charts/images (PDF/HTML), visuals may be analyzed to improve retrieval quality.
- Provider credentials are stored as Integration Tokens in your profile and are handled securely by Foundry Connect.
Recommended safe practices
- Avoid uploading sensitive or regulated data unless your organization’s policies explicitly allow it.
- Use least-privilege permissions: keep assistants private unless you have a reason to share.
- Rotate API keys if you believe a key has been exposed.
Data retention (high level)
Depending on your deployment and enabled features:
- Knowledge sources are stored by Foundry Connect to support retrieval.
- Generated embeddings and ingestion status may be stored to make future searches faster.
- Conversation history in AI Insight may be stored in the platform database.
