Learning Outcomes
  • Understand the two ways Foundry Connect connects to Claude — the plugin and the MCP connector.
  • Find the right onboarding page for the Claude surface you use.
  • Know where the underlying MCP reference documentation lives.

Using Foundry Connect with Claude

This section walks you through talking to Foundry Connect from Claude — asking about your runs, pipelines, and reports in plain language, and launching and monitoring runs. Under the hood, everything here is powered by the same MCP server that already backs Cursor, generic MCP clients, and Claude Desktop; these pages are the Claude-specific on-ramp.

If you only need raw client configuration (JSON snippets, token headers, the full tool list, troubleshooting), go straight to MCP Integration. If you're setting up Claude for the first time, start with Getting Started.

Two ways to connect

  • Seamless OAuth ("Connect to Claude") — preferred. From your Foundry Connect Profile, click Connect to Claude and approve access once; Foundry Connect provisions the token for you.
  • Manual PAT — works today on any instance. Generate an MCP token (prefix via_mcp_) under Personal Access Tokens and supply it yourself — as a header, a CLI flag, or pasted into a client's connector dialog, depending on the surface.

Every page in this section documents both paths.

Find your surface

Claude connects to Foundry Connect two different ways depending on where you're running it: the plugin (installed from a marketplace, adds slash commands) for Claude Code and its VS Code extension, or the MCP connector (OAuth, no plugin) for claude.ai, Claude for Science, and Claude Desktop.

Surface Onboarding path Set it up
Claude Code (CLI) Plugin (foundry-connect marketplace) Claude Code
Claude Code extension in VS Code Plugin (same marketplace) Claude Code in VS Code
claude.ai / Claude for Science MCP connector (OAuth) claude.ai / Claude for Science
Claude Desktop MCP connector (manual config today) MCP Integration → Claude Desktop

Foundry Connect works with other assistants too, over the same MCP server: see Using Foundry Connect with Copilot, Codex and ChatGPT.
